Mississippi River The Most Popular River in U.S.

The Mississippi River is one of the most popular rivers in the United States. The river length is 3,770 kms, making it the second longest river in the country. The river begins at the Lake Itasca part of Minnesota up to the Gulf of Mexico.

The Mississippi River’s history was traced back over 300,000 years ago. The Illinois glaciers are the one which have forbidden the river near the Rock Islands, which caused it to divert to an existing route, and an extension to the western boundaries of the State of Illinois.

A Change in the route of the Mississippi River was caused by earthquakes near the fault zone of New Madrid which is located at the St. Louis and Memphis. Three major earthquakes that occurred in 1811 and 1812 caused the temporary reversal of the river.
